Mateo Bedoya Arbelaez

Mateo joined Murphy Lighting Systems in August 2024 as a Lighting Technician. His work spans a wide range of responsibilities, including shipping, fabrication, custom fixtures, installations, upgrades, repairs, and content acquisition. With a sharp creative eye and technical precision, Mateo brings his background in cinematography and lighting design to every project, ensuring each installation captures the intended vision and atmosphere.

Before joining MLS, Mateo served in the United States Navy as an Air Traffic Controller—an experience that strengthened his focus, discipline, and attention to detail. After completing his service, he followed his calling for filmmaking and the entertainment industry, returning home to Orlando, FL, to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Film at Full Sail University. Since then, he has become an award-winning cinematographer, passionate YouTube content creator, and devoted member of his church’s Production Team, where he continues to hone his skills in camera work, shot composition, and lighting design.

Mateo’s expertise has taken him across the Americas, the Caribbean, Asia, and Europe, giving him the opportunity to work with diverse clients and environments. He considers it a blessing to have a career that merges his passions for lighting and theme parks—“what more could you ask for?”

Outside of work, Mateo enjoys spending time with his wife, Emily, and their Toy Australian Shepherd, Lenya. The couple is joyfully expecting their first son, Dawson Elior—a name Mateo felt inspired to choose while in the presence of God. When he discovered its Hebrew meaning, “God is my light,” he was in awe of the Lord’s goodness. On weekends, you can often find Mateo and Emily on the road, chasing spontaneous adventures and discovering new places together.
